English: Launching of flight Mercury-Redstone 3 (MR-3), the first U.S. manned space flight, from Cape Canaveral on May 5, 1961, on a sub-orbital mission.
Español: Lanzamiento del Mercurio 3 el 5 de mayo de 1961 con el astronauta Alan Shepard, primer estadounidense en llegar al espacio. El vuelo suborbital duró 15 minutos y 28 segundos. La cápsula espacial Freedom 7 alcanzó una altura de 170 kilómetros y cayó finalmente en el Océano Atlántico a 450 km del sitio de lanzamiento Cabo Cañaveral en Florida.
