The using of old of railways potential for the development of the Radial-Ring network of the Tyne and Wear Metro has three stages. The Main option - separate large parts of the Network. The Alternative option - a complex solution: 1st - The Main Difficult Ring; 2nd - External five branches (Blyth – Backworth; Durham – Murton – Sanderland; Chopwell – Swalwell; Prudhoe – Lemington; Ponteland – Airport / Callerton Parkway); 3rd - Inner branches and closing of loops. Total for Second (Alternative) stage: 20 new stations on non-operated and disused railway sections; 4 existing stations and 3 Firs stage’s stations for connects; new surface connecting sections.
