Description

New to Continental Airlines as N246V in Aug 1958, it was sold to Channel Airways in Dec 1966, registered G-AVHK and delivered to Southend in Feb 1967. In Jan 1969, Channel launched its long-awaited Southend-Aberdeen ‘bus stop’ service, with six intermediate airport calls, and G-AVHK (along with HS 748 G-ATEI) was dedicated to the route and both changed cabin-top titles from Channel Airways to Scottish Flyer, the marketing name of the service. I shot ‘VHK shortly after a heavy rain shower had passed over Southend on 28 Feb 1969. The Viscount made its last flight into Southend on 19 May 1970 and was withdrawn from use with all engines time-expired. It failed to attract a buyer and was broken-up there in Jun 1972.
