Summaryedit

Description

In gravelly volcanic soil at the north end of the St. Helena Palisades area, southeast of the crest of Highway 29 on Mt. St. Helena, Napa County, California, April 7th 1990. Flowers of this species usually start out horizontal or nodding, but can turn upright later, as seen here. Nodding flower heads of the uncommon tarweed Harmonia nutans can be seen to the left of the image, and the upright plant with pink buds and a strap-like leaf to the right is Allium cratericola, also not common. Scanned Kodachrome slide 009-025.
