| Description |
Large Bee-Fly (Bombylius major) photographed in my garden (Ipswich, Suffolk, TM166450) on 3 April 2014. Species confirmed by Ian Andrews on the Facebook UK Diptera page. This is bee-mimic which hums, hovers and feeds on flower nectar. We see lots of them in the garden in late spring/early summer. The adults lays eggs in the nests of solitary bees, wasps and beetles. The larvae then live off the bee, wasp or beetle larvae. |
