Summaryedit
Description |
English: Sagvassdalen Nature Reserve is southeast of Hamarøy municipality, right on the border with Sørfold municipality, Nordland, Norway. The area comprises the entire inner part of the Sagvassdalen valley, from Sjuendevatn lake and inland. It is a powerful landscape, consisting of a typical U-valley. The valley bottom is wide and wide to the west, but at the Sildhopskaret the valley narrows with rough mountain sides on both sides. The entire western part of the area consists of hard granite, while the rocky rocks in the steep west slope and the eastern eastern mountain range consist of glimmer slate and glitter gypsum, with marble elements. The leakage cover is relatively powerful in the valley floor in the form of maternal material. In addition, in the inlet section of Sjuendevatnet there are quite thick covers of fine-grain glacier river sediments.
The purpose of the protection is to preserve a natural area with rare and vulnerable nature, with its biological diversity in terms of natural habitats, ecosystems, species and natural ecological processes. The area has a special significance for biodiversity in the form of a larger, well-deserted valley with older pine forests, pine forests on glacier sediments, large areas of rich birch forests and a well-developed pine forest. Conservation of natural resources within the nature reserve is important for Sami culture and utilization. Source: Norwegian Environment Agency. www.naturbase.no |
