Todas las aves ponen huevos de cáscara dura que incuban los padres. Sus picos, patas y plumaje, varían según el género, alimentación y habitat. El plumaje varía en muchas especies, el macho luce un brillante colorido para la parada nupcial, mientras que el de la hembra es de un tono apagado.
