Description

Francis’s wife left him when he needed her most - bed-ridden and with no money to feed his eight children.

“I was suffering from tuberculosis and was on strong medication, yet I had no food since I could not do my regular work of being a factory guard” says Francis.

Initially MSDP provided Francis and his family with a monthly payment of Kshs 1500 (£10) to buy food. “That helped improve my diet and feed my children at a time when I was on my back, bed-ridden, on heavy medication and would only have a meal a day.”

Recently Francis has been well enough to join MSDP’s cash for work projects. For the last few weeks Francis has been renovating an overflowing drainage in Mukuru. “The money I earn helps to feed my children and pay for the house. I also save a bit and by the end of the project I will have started a small business to help me survive.”
