Identification on verso (handwritten): Photo by Pangborn (Profession photographer) lived and worked at 119 East 23 St. New York City same bldg. Walt Kuhn had his studio 1904-1905 when and where this photo was taken. A small print of this photo was cremated with Vera Kuhn, after her death, October 22, 1961. Wrote this information upon this photo, December 16, 1962 (signed) Brenda Kuhn. Paul Branson (well known American Animal artist who also lived 1904-1905 at 119 East 23 St N.Y. City, gave this photo with accompanying negative (now in possession of Brenda Kuhn) to the artist's widow, Vera Kuhn. Identification on accompanying note (typewritten): Walt Kuhn (1880-1949): As one of the organizers of the Armory Show (1913), Kuhn searched Europe for artists whose work had not yet been seen in the United States. He started his career as a cartoonist, but as a painter he concentrated on clowns, acrobats and the circus. |
