Summaryedit

Description
English: Castel Gandolfo, or Latin Castrum Gandulphi located in the Alban Hills about 25 km southeast of Rome on the Alban Lake. Here, where now the town is located on a former volcanic crater was the fabled city of Alba Longa. This city was founded around 1152 BC by Ascanius, the son of the Trojan Aeneas. The two founders of the city of Rome, Romulus and Remus were the sons of Rhea Silvia, daughter of the king Numitor Silvius from Alba Longa. The third king of Rome, Tullus Hostilius has destroyed the city 665 BC, the inhabitants deported and settled on the Mons Caelius, one of the seven hills of Rome. The patrician Julian clan, descended from the Caesar was originally from Alba Longa. Today, Castel Gandolfo, the summer residence of the popes.
