Summaryedit
| Description |
Title: TV, studios [22 photographs] Archives reference: AAFH 7304 W4771Box 2 / p B41-1457 www.archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewFullItem.do?code=20828557 At 7.30pm on 1 June, 1960, New Zealand’s first official public television broadcast was transmitted from Central Auckland. Although it could initially only be watched in Auckland, the other main centres eventually followed. By August 1962 TV shows were also streaming from stations in Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. The undated photograph above shows the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation (NZBC) filming in one of its studios. The image is from a photographic series of radio and television broadcasting in New Zealand in the 20th century. They include material from the early years of television services and the NZBC. The prints depict artists and sets, studios and broadcasting equipment, and current events like the opening of the Mt Kaukau station and the opening of parliament in 1965. Created by the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation and transferred to Archives New Zealand from the State Services Commission.
