Der Stachus ist die umgangssprachliche Bezeichnung für den “Karlsplatz” in München. Der Name stammt von einem Gastwirt mit Namen Eustachius Föderl, der an diesem Platz seit 1755 im Bereich der heutigen Galeria Kaufhof (Architekt: Theo Pabst) ein Gasthaus namens Stachusgarten betrieb. Das in der Bildmitte befindliche Karlstor (München) (bis 1791 Neuhauser Tor genannt) ist das westliche Stadttor der historischen Altstadt von München.
