Joachim wears two chains with pendants around his neck, holds a rosary in his left hand and has a ring on his finger.

Object history
Deutsch: 1699 vermutlich im Potsdamer Stadtschloss; - 1793 nachweislich im Berliner Schloss
English: presumably in the Potsdam City Palace in 1699 - evidently in the Berlin Palace in 1793
Notes
August betonen wollte.
English: In 1563, Joachim II declared his Lutheran profession of faith, but the rosary in this portrait (ca. 1570) suggests he is not a Protestant. In 1569, following negotiations with his brother-in-law, the Polish King Sigismund II Augustus, Joachim was co-enfoeffed with the Duchy of Prussia. The striking fur hat worn by Joachim has been interpreted by some researchers as a Polish item of apparel possibly intended to manifest his close connection with the Polish throne.
