Zu diesem Streitgespräch eingeladen hatte Landgraf Philipp der Großmütige, der auf dem Schloss in Marburg residierte und die Reformation in Hessen eingeführt hatte. Er sitzt links am Tischrand, neben ihm Herzog Ulrich von Württemberg.
