Summaryedit

Description
English: Kowary is a town in the Lower Silesian region of south-west Poland, just under 100 kilometres from the regional capital of Wrocław. Close to Kowary and set high in the mountains is the impressive “Wysoka Łąka” (pl) hospital/sanatorium built at the end of the nineteenth century and boasting distinctive Art Nouveau features. On the outskirts of Kowary, at 4 Wojska Polskiego, is a contemporary building of the period which was formerly the “Matter Hotel”, Alfons Matter being the renowned developer of the district of Cieszyn known as “Matterówka”. (As a side note, Alfons was the father-in-law of Andrzej Grodyński whose first wife died at only thirty years of age from tuberculosis and the sanatorium at Kowary specialized in the treatment of this ‘disease’ previously known as “consumption”.)
The Scotch Mist Gallery contains many photographs of historic buildings, monuments and memorials of Poland.
Polski: Szpital "Wysoka Łąka".
