Summary
Description | New Orleans street corner. Louisiana. Mid 1930s photograph by Walker Evans of "N.E.Sauls Grocery & Sandwich Shop", with truck from "Dixie Baking Company" parked in front. Visible are advertising signs for Luzianne Coffee, Coca-Cola. Truck looks to be a Ford Model A, at least the front part; was this a standard but less seen cab and bed, or customized? Note: This is one of two known Walker Evans photos of this building, the other seen at Image:Walker Evans New Orleans street corner B.jpg. The Library of Congress site dates this image to August 1936 and that other image to January, 1936. However it looks more likely that both photos were taken within minutes of each other, one either side of the arrival or departure of the delivery truck. Note the ladder in the same space and same writing on the chalk board.
