Description
English: U.S. President Barack Obama plants an Irish oak tree beside the Peace Bell at Áras an Uachtaráin in Dublin, Ireland on 23 May 2011.

The Peace Bell was unveiled on 21 May 2008 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Good Friday Agreement, part of the Northern Ireland peace process. The 19th century bell is suspended from a central piece of oak from the grounds of Áras an Uachtaráin, and is supported by two oak trunks, one from Shane's Castle Demesne, County Antrim, and the other from the Leopardstown Park Hospital area in County Dublin.

The tree planted by Obama was beside one planted one week earlier by Queen Elizabeth II and was moved afterwards to a permanent site near a giant sequoia planted at Áras an Uachtaráin by President John F. Kennedy on 27 June 1963. A tree planted by former President Bill Clinton is also nearby.

Left to right: Robert Norris (head gardener at Áras an Uachtaráin), President Obama, President of Ireland Mary McAleese, First Lady Michelle Obama, and Martin McAleese.
