Description |
A HDR (High Dynamic Range) image combining exposures up to twelve minutes. Local adaptation techniques have been used to preserve details in the shadows. In the pre-dawn light the street lights from the coast road and Ovingdean dip roundabout still predominate, and their illumination spills out onto the sea. The very long exposure gives the sea the appearance of being frozen and snow covered. The soft mottling of the sea surface denotes patterns where waves break at different rates - determined by the topography beneath the surface. Along the top of the sea wall parapet, zig zag lines indicate where chunks of chalk - which fall frequently - have been dragged along by by walkers along the undercliff path. Four versions of this view, derived from the original HDR files, have been produced: dark, contrasty, moody (this one) and [ pastel light]. Part of a set, Brighton Seafront at Night |
