This county wasnamed for General James Edward Oglethorpe, one of the founders andthe lirst governor of Georgia. It is bounded on the north by Madisoncounty, northeast by Elbert, on the east by AVilkes, on the southeast byWilkes and Taliaferro, south by Greene and west by Clarke and Oconee.Broad river separates the county from Elbert, and the Oconee riverforms a part of its western boundary.
