Description

Tête de Christ en croix. 45 cm de haut, ce qui signifie que la statue entière du Christ en croix devait avoisiner les 2,30 m. A cause de ses grandes dimensions, la tête, sculptée dans une seule pièce de bois, a été évidée au revers. Le cou de la statue a été scié. dans des circonstances inconnues (le jubé de l'église Saint-Georges de Sélestat a été détruit à la Révolution). Le haut de la tête est perforé, l'oeuvre comporte des cassures, des manques au niveau de la couronne d'épines, des cheveux et de la barbe. À l'occasion de l'exposition de 1991, la tête a été restaurée par Anne Gérard-Bendele, du centre régional de restauration et de conservation des œuvres d'art de Vesoul. Cette restauration a permis de constater que la couche picturale d'origine était toujours en place, appliquée sur une préparation blanche. La polychromie visible date vraisemblablement du 18e siècle. h 45, l 38, p 42 cm.
