Summaryedit
Description |
English: Spaso-Preobrazhensky cathedral in Pereslavl-Zalessky, interior view, commemorative plaque on the west wall. The text reads: «This Cathedral church was constructed of white stone in 1152 by Grand Duke Georgy Vladimirovich Dolgorukiy, and well decorated by his son, Grand Duke Andrei Bogolyubsky. But in this form it existed for only 86 years, for in 1238, 1252 and 1281 was sacked and devastated by the tatars. In 1293 was burned by Duke Andrey of Gorodets. In 1385 the Khan of Tatars Tokhtamysh, and in 1409 prince of Orda Edigey again sacked and burned it. In 1611—1612 years it suffered much from the Lithuanians, and although in the continuation of its seven-century existence it have been resumed, but, deprived of the former indoor and outdoor decorations from fire and barbarism of enemies, it began to deteriorate inside. In 1891—1894 this temple, as an ancient Sanctuary of citizens, with the permission of the Archaeological Commission, is resumed and decorated under the care and dependency of the ktetor of the church Hereditary Нonorary Сitizen Pyotr Nikolayevich Nozhevnikov, and with the Archpastoral blessing of His Excellency Sergius, Archbishop of Vladimir and Suzdal, was consecrated on August 28, 1894».
