The driver of Great Western railway 4575 Class locomotive 5553 exchanges tokens with the signalman at Williton, Somerset, England. The signalman on the platform holds the Williton-Blue Anchor token above his head and will collect the Crowcombe-Williton token with his other hand; the fireman therefore holds this token in his lower hand and will catch the new token with his empty had above. This means that the signalman does not have to walk to the far end of the station to exchange tokens once the train has stopped, which means the train is stopped for a shorter time.

Inside the cab of former Port of Par steam locomotive Alfred. This was built by W G Bagnall to a very restricted loading gauge so that it could operate through a low bridge, it therefore has the cab floor unusually fitted below the level of the main frames. It is currently preserved in working condition on the Bodmin and Wenford Railway in Cornwall, United Kingdom, although the photograph was taken while it was at Saltash as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations for the Royal Albert Bridge.
