Tel Aviv, (Tel Aviv-Yafo) is the second most populous city in Israel, with a population of 404,400 on a land area of 52 km2. The city is located on the Israeli Mediterranean coastline in west-central Israel. It is the largest and most populous city in the metropolitan area of Gush Dan, with a population of 3.3 million residents as of 2010. Tel Aviv was founded in 1909 by the Jewish Community of Jaffa, on the outskirts of the ancient port city. Known as The City That Never Sleeps, it is a popular tourist destination, attracting 2.7 million international visitors annually. It is renowned for its 24-hour culture, beaches, bars, restaurants, cafés, parks, shopping, cosmopolitan lifestyle, and landmark neighborhoods such as Old Jaffa and Neve Tzedek. At the Beach, a 1901 print by Charles Dana Gibson. The suggestion is that the men might be inclined to enjoy the beach by taking off their clothes to swim, but they do not because a woman is present and such would be considered improper in mixed company-- but the men also think it would be rude to ask the woman to leave, and so have frustrated expressions.
