This 1979 photograph was taken inside St. Roch’s Cemetery, New Orleans, LA., which acted as an urban-situated breeding site for Aedes aegypti, and Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitos.
Both of these mosquito genera are known vectors for the arboviral pathogens responsible for Dengue fever, and St. Louis encephalitis respectively. Keeping close tabs on potential mosquito vector populations is essential in maintaining control over a possible epidemiologic outbreak of vector-borne diseases such as Dengue fever, malaria, or St. Louis encephalitis virus. Wherever there may be standing collections of water, these hearty creatures, which are for the most part disseminated throughout the world’s tropical climates, may then breed, thereby, becoming dangerous public health hazards.

Tups, Priesthill. Blackfaces spending the summer up here, other than the deer and pheasant pens, the only signs of animal husbandary on the moor here. In the background, rows of tully tubes show some woodland planning. I think a sporting estate is being created here.
Tups, Addiewell. A field between the A71 and A704. Looking south towards mine waste. The tups wandered over in case of a handout. My shepherding days are past now, so they were disappointed. All had bloody heads as a result of fighting. Although hormonal changes strengthen their skulls in the autumn, they still often manage to inflict fatal injuries on their opponents.

Sheep, Pantllwyd. Waiting for a handout, given that the meagre winter grass is buried.
Sheep pens, Priesthill. There seems to be little grazing here now, but some outlaw sheep still lurk out there in the long grass. There is a pen containing red deer nearby though.
