Description English: Bloom of cyanobacteria in a fish-pond (freshwater) in northern Germany. Deutsch: "Blüte" von Cyanobakterien (oft auch als Blaualgenblüte bezeichnet) in einem Fischteich. Die Konsistenz der Masse direkt unterhalb der Wasseroberfläche ist schlierenartig (bedingt durch Schleim, der die Zellen kolonieartig verbindet), dabei aber doch "lose fließend". (Diese Form der Cyanobakterien-"Blüte" - es kann je nach Art auch andere Erscheinungsformen geben - sollte nicht mit zusammenhängenden, fädigen Grünalgenwatten oder auch mit einer den gesamten Wasserkörper einheitlich hell- bis olivgrün verfärbenden Grünalgenblüte von Mikroalgen verwechselt werden!) Unterhalb dieser flottierenden Schicht kann das Wasser durchaus klar sein. Die Massenentwicklung (also: "Blüte") von Blaualgen/Cyanobakterien wurde hier wohl ausgelöst durch übermäßige Nährstoffeinträge infolge unsachgemäßen Fischbesatzes sowie höhere Wassertemperaturen. In Badegewässern kann dies unangenehme Auswirkungen auf den Menschen haben. Hautkontakt sowie die orale Aufnahme der leber- bzw. nervengiftig wirkenden Cyanobakterien können zu Beschwerden wie Übelkeit, Erbrechen, Durchfall, Atemnot, Hautreizungen oder Quaddeln führen.
