Description

An unexpected bonus at yesterdays continental street market in Inverness was a fund raising stall from the Bird of Prey Rescue Centre in the highlands. The European Eagle Owl is the largest owl in the world, 1 metre tall, with a wingspan of 2 metres. They are native to southern and eastern Europe but over the last few years several have been seen in the Highlands of Scotland. Last winter one of these birds took up residence in the city of Inverness and caused quite a few shocks when it visited peoples bird tables looking for food! It was also blamed for the disappearance of several small pets, but was very popular with traders in the High Street after it decimated the local gull population. Explore 24th June 2007 # 254
