ENGLISH SHIRE HORSE BLYTH BEN (4239). Color, gray; foaled 1883; got by Kempston (3163), son of Emperor 2d (2769); dam by Thumper (2136), son of Waxwork (2298).Bred by J. Osborn Daintree, Cambridgeshire, England; imported1886, and owned by Galbraith Bros., Janesville, Wis. This horsewas by long odds the most successful three-year-old Shire horse thatwas shown in America for the year 1886. At the great ChicagoShow of that year he won three first prizes, among them being thesweepstakes of the Shire-Horse Breeders Association for best stall-ion of any age. Engraved from a sketch by Burk, showing thehorse at three years old. (146)
