English: A schematic of the carbon footprints of India, Sweden, Russia and the USA. As can be clearly seen from the schematic, countries with high human welfare do not always have high carbon footprints. Although this (to some degree, correct) idea could be derived from an overall view of the carbon footprints network data (especially with the ecological footprints data; which combines carbon data and other factors aswell), this diagram shows that things are also a matter of politics (by not having imbedded concrete laws to support zero emission and the politicians' unwillingness to introduce them ;as this could/would cost them votes). To a certain point, one may thus say that the whole matter is thus about having the right attitude/ethics and mentality (as Sweden and Iceland are capable of combining the both wealth and low carbon footprints). Examplary measures which could be introduced can be found here. Please note that the latter only provides examples (made it myself) and is not an official page/measures. The image here was made from data found at global footprints network. The inspiration for the circle diagram was obtained from the National Geographic Magazine special on climate change (see page 64). Finally, the European Happy Planet-Index can be retrieved from here and the mentioning that Iceland has even lower carbon emissions (and that they have the best relation between happiness and emissions) can be found here. Note that although the footprint network has no data of Iceland, I believe it to have probably a score of 0,7 (where Sweden is, as can be seen from the regular data 1,06; this has been made up from calculation out of the EU HPI-document).
