The island of Sadou (Sadouga shima) was home to one of the most important gold mines in Japan. 'Kinzan' is literally 'Gold Mountain'. The mine was active for almost 300 years. The view here shows the outside of Kinzan where the mountain that was once one piece has been split almost into two pieces. This was photographed at the commemorative site. Photographed by contributor.
