English: Beryl, Calcite
Locality: Coscuez Mine (Cosquez Mine), Muzo, Vasquez-Yacopí Mining District, Boyacá Department, Colombia (Locality at mindat.org)
Size: cabinet, 10.2 x 4.0 x 3.1 cm
Emerald on Calcite (twinned)
Thumbnail, 2.7 x 2 x 1 cm What more could you want in a thumbnail specimen? Emerald thumbers are rare enough on matrix, and with such a unique matrix at that I think this piece stands out from the crowd. The crystal has EXCELLENT color, brilliance, and a lot of gemminess to it, even gemmy zones that are cutters. The emerald has one partial crack near the base, though it does not seem to go through the crystal where it is anchored to the calcite and thus indicate a repair; otherwise it is undamaged and complete all around as you can see in the pictures.
