Been asked by many friends lately to help them buy a new computer. 100 yen netbooks are very popular these days since they are small, light, and of course are very cheap. To get the deal you must sign a contract for a two year contract for a USB data modem. It's about 6,000 yen a month for unlimited 3g data. Not a bad deal really. Now you see fast food shops and cafes in Tokyo full of people working on these cheap laptops.

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (May 6, 2010) Information Systems Technician 1st Class Latarsha Young displays one of many computers that were damaged by floodwaters at the Navy Recruiting Command storage annex. The Navy Recruiting Command headquarters staff and other units at Naval Support Activity Mid-South began flood recovery operations after two days of rain dumped more than 14 inches in the area May 1 and 2, causing a drainage ditch on the east side of the base to spill over and flood parts of the base. A picture of my laptop keyboard, modified to simultaneously show the keyboards I am learning (Dvorak Simplified, Russian, Korean Dubeolsik, and Bahraini Arabic). The characters were written with ultra-fine (0.1 and 0.05 mm) colored pens, and the weird angle and pseudo-cropped framing were the result of the harsh overhead lighting at the time I took this photo.
Two impedance tubes (new generation of Kundt's tube). A laptop sits on the amplifier. A graph of the absorption coefficient as a function of frequency is visible.
