Maloya dancer. This popular dance is typical of the celebration of the abolition of slavery in la R?�union. Behind the dancer one may perhaps distinguish a kayamb player. The kayamb is an instrument made of hollow reeeds filled with seeds that rattle as it is shaken. Maloya was banned until the sixties.
