Summary
Description | An 1938 Auto-Union V16 type C/D. This is a purpose bult race car for hillclimbing competitions. The construction was headed by Dr. Robert Eberan. It is built on a type D chassis and powered by a supercharged 6005 cc V16 engine giving 520 hp designed by Ferdinand Porsche. The fuel consumption is 6 litres/10 km. In 1939 H. J. Struck won La Turbie in France and came second at the Grosslockner track in Austria. H. P. Müller was successfull both at Grosslockner and on mountain roads in Kohlensberg aoutside Vienna. The car in the picture was in 1945 broght from Auto-Union in Zwickau to Moscow to study it's technology. In 1976 the car was at the ZIL factory in Moscow and sceduled for cutting up for scrap metal. Victor Kulbergs, president of Antique Automobile Club of Latvia, brought it to Riga and in 1997 it was fully restored and rebuilt by Crostwhite & Gardiner in England. |
