Summary

Description
English: Photo of a "cat's whisker detector", an antique radio component used in early crystal radio receivers, from a 1914 amateur radio book. This was called a "Pyron" type. It consisted of a fine wire on an adjustable arm (the "cat's whisker, right) touching the surface of a crystal of iron pyrite or Fool's gold (left). It was manufactured by the Wireless Specialty Apparatus Co. Alterations to image: cropped out second image of detector.
