Summary

Artist
Title
English: Portrait of Eleonora (known as "Dianora" or "Leonora") di Don Garzia di Toledo di Don Pietro dei' Medici (1553–1576).

Often called "Leonora", Eleonora di Garzia di Toledo should not be confused with the Eleonora di Toledo who married Cosimo I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany. Both were from the Spanish House of Toledo which ruled the kingdoms of Naples and Sicily as viceroys for Philip II of Spain. Leonora's husband, Don Pietro de' Medici, was a son of the older Eleonora and Cosimo. Leonora was known for her vivacity and for her affairs. Pietro strangled her with a dog leash for her adultery, with the approval of his brother, Francesco I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany. (Reference: Caroline P. Murphy, Isabella de' Medici, London: Faber and Faber, 2008, ISBN 9780571230303.)

Alessandro Allori, a representative of the sixteenth-century Florentine school, was a pupil of the artist Agnolo Bronzino, who in turn was a follower of Jacopo Pontormo.

This applies to Australia, the European Union and those countries with a copyright term of life of the author plus 70 years.

This image may not be in the public domain in these countries, which moreover do not implement the rule of the shorter term. This file has been identified as being free of known restrictions under copyright law, including all related and neighboring rights.

The official position taken by the Wikimedia Foundation is that "faithful reproductions of two-dimensional public domain works of art are public domain, and that claims to the contrary represent an assault on the very concept of a public domain". For details, see Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag.
This photographic reproduction is therefore also considered to be in the public domain.

Please be aware that depending on local laws, re-use of this content may be prohibited or restricted in your jurisdiction. See Commons:Reuse of PD-Art photographs.
